<br />. <br /> <br />Section 2 - Programmatic Areas <br />Flood Protection Section <br /> <br />Floodplain Designation: Review and Approve 100-year floodplain information and supporting data on new <br />maps as well as revisions and updates to existing floodplain maps and studies as required by Statute. <br /> <br />Floodplain Identification: Produce new and revised floodplain studies to identify flood hazard areas for use <br />by federal, state and local entities as well as the public. This includes the Map Modernization Program for the <br />production of digital regulatory floodplain mapping and reports. <br /> <br />Prepare for and Respond to Flood Events: Prepare for and respond to flood events including conducting <br />field and technical activities (e.g., documentation ofthe flood, providing technical guidance and support) in <br />response to significant floods in Colorado. Staff the CWCB mitigation officer position during declared <br />disasters. <br /> <br />Recover from and Mitigate Flood Hazards: Provide technical services to support recovery from and <br />mitigation to flood and flood hazards. Includes providing post-flood technical guidance for decision making <br />under emergency conditions (including providing engineering, GPS, survey, and technical support) to aid the <br />State and its citizens in implementing techniques that are feasible and practical. <br /> <br />Partnership with Federal, State, and Local Entities: Participate in partnering with federal, state, and local <br />entities for the management, marketing, and administration of flood and flood related programs. Identify and <br />make recommendations regarding "Homeland Security" needs that correspond to other hazard reduction <br />.es and existing relationships with the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Colorado Division <br />mergency Management. <br /> <br />Multi-objective Planning and Projects: Participate with partners to plan and undertake multi-objective <br />watershed restoration studies and projects to reduce flood hazards, stabilize and restore stream channels, <br />provide habitat and enhanced ecological benefits, reduce erosion, and increase the capacity to utilize water. <br /> <br />Weather Modification Permitting: Permit and monitor weather modification operations to increase the <br />amount of water available from winter and summer weather systems and to suppress hail. Authority to <br />manage the weather modification permitting program has been delegated from the Executive Director's <br />Office of Natural Resources since 1987. The CWCB has made grants available to local water project <br />sponsors since 2004 to assist in their cloud seeding operations. <br /> <br />Statewide Outreach and Education: Conduct outreach and education to increase public understanding and <br />awareness of the CWCB's programs and projects. <br /> <br />Water Information: Make information accessible to the public through use ofthe CWCB website, <br />Laserfiche, publications, newsletters, and other media. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />
