A Copy of the memo can be found in <br />the attachments. <br /> <br />Goveror-Elect Ritter Makes New Appointments: As of January 8, here are the Cabinet appointments <br />that the new Governor has made: <br />· Agriculture: John Stulp Background: Farmer; former Prowers County commissioner; former <br />member of state wildlife commission <br />· Corrections: Ari Zavaras Background: Director of operations for a group that focuses on reducing <br />criminal recidivism; former manager of public safety for Denver; former Cabinet director; former <br />Denver police chief <br />· Health Care Policy and Financing: Joan Henneberry Background: Senior vice president of <br />government health services for Policy Studies Inc. of Denver; previously handled health policy for the <br />National Governors Association in Washington, D.C.; Colorado Department of Public Health and <br />Environment employee from 1984 to 1997 <br />· Higher Education: David Skaggs Background: Former Colorado congressman and state <br />representative; attorney with the firm Hogan & Hartson; founder and executive director of the Center <br />for Democracy & Citizenship at the Council for Excellence in Government <br />Of note: Always kept his home in Boulder; moved back to Colorado last year from the Washington, <br />D.C., <br />· Human Services: Karen Legault Beye Background: Director of health and human services for <br />Broomfield since 2001; served in the 1990s as director of the former Department of Social Services <br />under then-Gov. I will miss his intellectual and <br />thoughtful contributions to this Board and to the water community, and I will miss his friendship. I know <br />I speak for all the staff. We look forward to working with the new administration. Harris Sherman and I <br />have already met several times and I know he will be a great asset to the Department. <br /> <br />Sen. Salazar Hires Veteran Chief of Staff: United States Senator Ken Salazar announced Dec. 14 that <br />he has hired veteran Capitol Hill Chief of Staff, Jeff Lane. Jeff Lane comes with 20 years of Capitol Hill <br />experience, most recently serving as Chief of Staff for Senator John Edwards (D-NC). Since leaving <br />Senator Edwards office in 2002, Jeffhas been working as Counsel for the Government Relations Group at <br />the law firm, Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice. <br /> <br />17 <br />
