Colorado Association of Stormwater & Floodplain Managers Conference (CASFM): Several staff
members are scheduled to attend and speak at the 17th annual CASFM conference to be held in late
September in Glenwood Springs. This year's conference will attract well over 200 professionals from
around the state from local, state and federal agencies as well as private sector consultants. The
conference theme is based in part on lessons learned from the devastating impacts of Hurricane Katrina
and the associated damage from levee failures and other disaster related topics. The presentations and
technical sessions will provide an opportunity to discuss current issues, including flood hazards and
emergency preparedness plans. The conference will also feature presentations for CASFM nominees for
the "project of the year" award.

.

Kevin Houck Elected Regional Director of ASFPM: Kevin Houck has been elected Regional Director
of the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM), the national, non-profit, professional
membership organization whose 9,000+ members are the floodplain managers from all across the U.S.
and beyond. Its 24 State Chapters represent 26 states, and are composed of the professionals who do the
job "on the ground" to make flood loss reduction a reality at the state and local levels. Kevin will have
the opportunity to be a leader in guiding and influencing national flood policy and helping to make
sustainable floodplain management a reality in the nation.

Floodplain Map Modernization Update: Flood Protection Staff have been working on the Map
Modernization program application to renew the Construction Fund non-reimbursable dollars for FY 08.
This application will be compiled with all other requests for consideration by Board members at its
Finance Committee meeting and subsequently by the full Board during the regular meeting. In addition,
staff worked on updating the Map Modernization Business Case Plan that was recently submitted to
FEMA. The Business Case Plan is a guidance document describing how and when Map Modernization
activities will take place in Colorado. The FEMA Region vrn office is currently working on
incorporating every State's Business Case Plan into an overall Region vrn plan that will go to FEMA
headquarters, which will then be integrated into an overall nationwide Map Modernization mapping
strategy plan.

.

FY 06 Counties:
The CWCB is currently working with our consultants PBS&J and Anderson Consulting to develop
scopes of work for the FY06 projects which include: Archuleta County DFIRM, Weld County
DFIRM, Teller County DFIRM and LaPlata County DFIRM, Fremont County and Clear Creek
County Physical Map Revisions (PMR), Pueblo County Arkansas River Levee floodplain study, pre-
scoping efforts for Delta, Summit, and Park Counties.

Pre-Scoping meetings were held last month with Summit and Park Counties. Cost estimates will be sent out to the communities
so they can plan accordingly with their fiscal year budgets. The Delta County pre-scoping meeting
date has not been determined, but it is planned to occur sometime later this year or early next year for
project start date of 2008. The CWCB has also requested Anderson Consulting to prepare a cost
estimate for pre-scoping EI Paso County for a DFIRM conversion project to start next year.

FY 05 Counties:
Mesa, Fremont, Clear Creek and Garfield Counties detailed studies are in progress or nearly
complete.
