,'. -.

c'

SECTION 5

CONSERVATION MEASURES

ROLE OF WATER USE EFFICIENCY

The City's water system is well maintained and is capable of supplying the City's needs for time
to come at the present rate of growth within the water system. However, the City's wastewater
treatment plant is rapidly nearing capacity. The City's best judgment of the role of water use
efficiency is to lower interior water usage to lessen the flow at the wastewater treatment plant.
Some conservation measures that can affect interior water use include:

. water efficient toilet fixtures, faucets, showerheads, appliances;
· educational material; and
. interior leakage inspections.

CONSERVATION MEASURES

Water-Efficient Fixtures

Water efficient fixtures have the potential to reduce interior water use, which is the City's best
judgment of the role of water use efficiency. Information on water-efficient fixtures will be
included with each water tap permit.

Low Water-Use Landscapes and Efficient Irrigation

Low water use landscapes and efficient irrigation techniques are not a priority at this time, as this
is an exterior water use concern rather than an interior use concern. The City's current focus will
be to reduce interior water use, and therefore, reduce the wastewater loading on the City's
wastewater treatment plant.

The City of Trinidad will consider having future conservation programs address water
conservation in landscape areali, parks, building grounds, golf courses, etc. This type of
conservation program would involve including water conserving principles into planning,
development and management of both new or renovated landscapes. This would reduce water
use as well a'i be used as an example for the City's citizens. At the time that this type of
conservation program is implemented, xeriscape irrigation will be used where feasible at City
owned facilities and encouraged with other customers.

-10-
