CenterSaga Unresolved <br /> <br />.> <br /> <br />The continuing saga of the <br />Senior/Community Center <br />project which has been <br />under discussion - and <br />under excavation - for some <br />time now is no further along <br />than It was months ago. ex- <br />cept for the dirt which has <br />been moved around on the <br />original proposed site. <br />At the Nucla Town Board <br />meeting on June 22 two <br />members of the buUding <br />committee. Dock Pulliam <br />and Marjorie Smith. sub- <br />mitted their resignations and <br />also submitted letters re- <br />questing the funds they per- <br />sonally put Into the building <br />fund be rebnbursed with in- <br />terest. Another letter from an <br />attorney representing Nucla- <br />Naturlta Senior Citizens loe. <br />was a demand for funds <br />generated by the Seniors to <br />be returned to the Seniors or <br />to the original donors. <br />.,~{ll_~~il~ The refunds were re- <br />quested because of several <br />factors. including petitions <br />handed In at the last meeting <br />asking the board to meM: the <br />Center site elsewhere. When <br />asked by this reporter whJch <br />site was actually being dis- <br />cussed at the meeting. Mayor. <br />Maiy Helen deKoevend ad- <br />vised that the original site <br />was being discussed and no <br />vote had taken place to con- <br />sider moving It. <br />The requests are on hold for <br />the moment pending a "final- <br />decision on whether or not <br />the Center will be bunt. will <br />be bullt where it ortglnally <br />was Intended. wU1 not be <br />buUt. or will be bunt at a <br />different location. That <br />decision Is supposed to be <br />made at the July 13 meeting. <br />l. The Center was the main <br /> <br />.) <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />topic of dbcusslon at the <br />meeting. Mayor deKoevend <br />asked project superinten- <br />dent Leonard Roessner to <br />give his report on the project <br />and on the bids. which were <br />opened on June 15 with ar- <br />chitect Jim. Nolan preskilng. <br />The apparent low bidder was <br />Reams Construction. which <br />gave a bid for the entire <br />project. Reams was asked to <br />glve a revised bid for only <br />dryIng 10 the buUdIng. and <br />that price was $159.000. A <br />time schedule also was sub- <br />mitted at that tlme. with a <br />completion date of four to five <br />months from start up. <br />Roessner recommended the <br />board accept the bid. No ac- <br />tion was taken at the meeting <br />to accept or reject the bid. <br />but will be considered at the <br />July 13 meeting. <br />The board voted. to ter- <br />minate Roessner's contract . <br />as of June 30 since he bas <br />completed his duties .as <br />desaibed within the contract <br />as project superintendent. <br />Other agenda items in- <br />cluded a report on the raw <br />Water irrigation project. Terri <br />Moulton of the Water Conser- <br />vation . Board reviewed the <br />project and advised the <br />board It looks good. The town <br />plans to apply for another <br />grant for Phase II of the <br />project. Leslle Jones of <br />Region 10 met with the <br />.mayor to work on the grant <br />application which ~ due July <br />1st. A motion to submit the <br />application passed unan~ <br />mously. Phase I Is undelWllY <br />and appl1catlon are avaQable <br />for residents Interested in <br />hooking on to the system. A <br />motion to install water taps <br /> <br />wblch.baYe'~. ~ <br />arid then plaCe a moratorium <br />on . aD water tap. untJl the <br />raw. water' irrigation system <br />is, hooked up to the high <br />school passed. <br />Designs for restrooms at <br />the RaInbow Reservoir were <br />submitted. A compost-type <br />tonet was recommended. <br />costing approximately <br />S 10.000. The board agreed. to <br />check with Nuda SanItation <br />District requirements. Trees <br />have been de1l.vered at the <br />reservoir and a motion to pay <br />the 5700 bill for the trees <br />passed. Paul Koski reported <br />that a group of high school <br />students are working on the <br />Paradox Trail and will be in <br />the area.
