CenterSaga Unresolved .> The continuing saga of the Senior/Community Center project which has been under discussion - and under excavation - for some time now is no further along than It was months ago. ex- cept for the dirt which has been moved around on the original proposed site. At the Nucla Town Board meeting on June 22 two members of the buUding committee. Dock Pulliam and Marjorie Smith. sub- mitted their resignations and also submitted letters re- questing the funds they per- sonally put Into the building fund be rebnbursed with in- terest. Another letter from an attorney representing Nucla- Naturlta Senior Citizens loe. was a demand for funds generated by the Seniors to be returned to the Seniors or to the original donors. .,~{ll_~~il~ The refunds were re- quested because of several factors. including petitions handed In at the last meeting asking the board to meM: the Center site elsewhere. When asked by this reporter whJch site was actually being dis- cussed at the meeting. Mayor. Maiy Helen deKoevend ad- vised that the original site was being discussed and no vote had taken place to con- sider moving It. The requests are on hold for the moment pending a "final- decision on whether or not the Center will be bunt. will be bullt where it ortglnally was Intended. wU1 not be buUt. or will be bunt at a different location. That decision Is supposed to be made at the July 13 meeting. l. The Center was the main .) . topic of dbcusslon at the meeting. Mayor deKoevend asked project superinten- dent Leonard Roessner to give his report on the project and on the bids. which were opened on June 15 with ar- chitect Jim. Nolan preskilng. The apparent low bidder was Reams Construction. which gave a bid for the entire project. Reams was asked to glve a revised bid for only dryIng 10 the buUdIng. and that price was $159.000. A time schedule also was sub- mitted at that tlme. with a completion date of four to five months from start up. Roessner recommended the board accept the bid. No ac- tion was taken at the meeting to accept or reject the bid. but will be considered at the July 13 meeting. The board voted. to ter- minate Roessner's contract . as of June 30 since he bas completed his duties .as desaibed within the contract as project superintendent. Other agenda items in- cluded a report on the raw Water irrigation project. Terri Moulton of the Water Conser- vation . Board reviewed the project and advised the board It looks good. The town plans to apply for another grant for Phase II of the project. Leslle Jones of Region 10 met with the .mayor to work on the grant application which ~ due July 1st. A motion to submit the application passed unan~ mously. Phase I Is undelWllY and appl1catlon are avaQable for residents Interested in hooking on to the system. A motion to install water taps wblch.baYe'~. ~ arid then plaCe a moratorium on . aD water tap. untJl the raw. water' irrigation system is, hooked up to the high school passed. Designs for restrooms at the RaInbow Reservoir were submitted. A compost-type tonet was recommended. costing approximately S 10.000. The board agreed. to check with Nuda SanItation District requirements. Trees have been de1l.vered at the reservoir and a motion to pay the 5700 bill for the trees passed. Paul Koski reported that a group of high school students are working on the Paradox Trail and will be in the area. He asked If the aew could camp at the Reservoir.
