NEWSRELEASE , ..- (FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE) MARCH 10, 1995 ~ "LA JUNTA XERISCAPE VOLUNTEER DAY -- VETERAN'S PARK. 5TH & ADAMS" "As part of the 1995 La Junta Xeriscape Garden Project, the City of La Junta Parks and Recreation Department, the La Junta Tree Board, and the La Junta Public Works Department will be conducting a XERISCAPE VOLUNTEER DAY on Saturday, March 18th from 9 am to 12 noon. This day is being planned to get the community involved with the task of constructing a demonstration xeriscape garden. This garden will strive to show the citizens of La Junta and the surrounding communities, that there are water conservative alternatives to the traditional bluegrass lawns. This project is made possible by a grant from the Colorado Department of Water Conservation. Volunteers are asked to report to the xeriscape site, 5th and Adams Avenue, at 8:45 a.m. At that time, volunteers will be appointed to one of three groups. These work groups will be guided by members e of the La Junta Tree Board. Each work group will rotate to a different task after 45 minutes. At the conclusion of the morning, every volunteer will have participated in various tasks which are vital to the success of this project. Every volunteer will be acknowledged with their name imprinted upon a sign which will be erected at the project site upon completion of the project. The La Junta Xeriscape Project Coordinators ask that all volunteers bring their own shovels, gloves and rakes. The city will provide hoses, safety glasses, pitch forks, trees and shrubs for planting, mulch, coffee, punch and donuts. All ages are welcome. There will be tasks for all ages. Please dress appropriately for outdoor work (hats, long sleeve shirts, sun screen, etc.). Rain date will be Saturday, March 25th.
