e

e

~ features and benefits

The Trustees believe that the innovativeness of Keeping The Good Ship S.S
Empire Afloat lies in its appeal to both children and adults and in its design to
capture the imagination and cooperation of all the members of the community. A
number of municipalities are faced with problems similar to Empire's and the
project's description and procedures will be available for duplication by other
communities, both large and small. All results of the project will be disseminated
to other agencies through DRCOG's Water MAC and the Upper Clear Creek
Basin 208 Water Management Committee. The important fiscal and ecological
benefits of the project will be complemented by the development of an esprit de
corps between the Town's Trustees and the Town's people.

All of us have seen the positive results which education has brought about
to discourage smoking and alcohol consumption in our Nation. The Trustees
believe that similar results can be achieved, through education, regarding water
conservation.

The Trustees' target is to achieve a forty percent reduction in per-capita
water use from the present usage of approximately 200 gallons to 120 gallons per
day. This is felt to be a realistic and necessary goal that can be met through the
implementation of this project.

~ the crew

This water conservation demonstration project is designed to serve the
Town of Empire and its people, However, participation on the part of the Office
of Water Conservation, other water providers, conservation projects, and various
public agencies will be necessary to insure the quality and success of each phase
and component of the project.

The Town participates with membership on DRCOG's Water Resources
Management Committee and the Upper Clear Creek Basin 208 Water
Management group. The Town may utilize the technical resources available
through these two important organizations for this project.

8
