e

As these figures show, the water saved this past year is 3.68 times what
we calculated would be saved. However, we cannot attribute all this
water savings to the automatic faucets. The Grand Junction Regional
Center has always made efforts to save money, energy, and other
resources. This past year, some of those efforts included installing low
flow filters on regular faucets and converting sprinkling of lawns from
city water to irrigation water. We have no way to determine what savings
came from just the automatic faucets.

In our grant application, we proposed we would save $5216.40 in energy
by not having to heat the conserved water. However, I have not
attempted to calculate that savings because the water saved by irrigation
would not have been heated for use.

e

As stated in our grant application, the other benefits of automatic faucets
aside from water and dollar savings include:

Handwashing would be more hygienic as faucets would
never have to be touched.

Running water would be more accessible when one hand
is needed to support the client and the other hand has a
toothbrush, washcloth or other object.

The faucets are handicapped accessible.

Sink overflow would be eliminated at times when a client
turns faucets on but does not turn them off.

The following are quotes from direct caregivers about use of the faucets:

.."1 really like the new faucets. When my hands are gooey, I don't have
to touch the faucet. We have a couple clients who use them who could
not independently wash their hands before."

""We have a client who can now wash his hands independently. We
really like them."

""We really like the faucets-they make cleaning clients and washing
hands much easier."

-

2
