Description of Project:

Please attach as many sheets as necessary to describe your proposed project. Please
answer the following questions.

1. Provide a summary description of your proposed project. Be sure to provide a
description of, the need for your project, how you would implement your project,
and the participants in your project.

The Cherry Park Hydrozoning project proposes relandscaping of the park
perimeter. This six-acre neighborhood park provides various recreational
opportunities for its residents. This park, situated within a residential
neighborhood, is graded to follow the rolling hills of the land.

Because of the terrain, the establishment of turf grass around the perimeter of the
park has been difficult, especially on the south facing slopes. Relandscaping these
areas into hydrozones or xeriscaping would accomplish several goals. The
primary goal in the utilization of low-water requiring plants is water conservation.
Additionally, the vegetative cover established would enhance the park by adding
color and texture to the landscape. Planning for modifications to the landscaping
and irrigation have begun.

The project will be designed by South Suburban Park and Recreation District staff
and constructed either by a private contractor or South Suburban crews.

2. Describe the methods you are proposing to use to monitor or track the change in
water use as a result of the project. Also briefly describe how you propose to
evaluate the project results and publicize the results in your area.

Monthly metering will monitor the water usage after project completion.
Following the establishment period of the hydrozone plantings, water application
can be decreased. The District will compare monthly usage with water bills from
previous years to evaluate the project's success.
