e

e

-3-

1,245 gallons per minute during an average year. This water is

available only during the time the C.C. Ditch is operated, mid-

March to late November. The Town of Nucla has a conditional

right for 5 cubic feet per second from the San Miguel River.

This right is so junior, however, that it has no significance in

providing irrigation water.

Currently, the water from the C.C. Ditch is controlled by one

reservoir located at the treatment plant east of the town and has

a capacity of approximately 23,725,000 gallons. The second

reservoir, the Third Street Reservoir, is at the north edge of

town and the usable capacity is roughly estimated at 4,137,000

gallons. Consequently, the two reservoirs will

provide adequate storage for the Town of Nucla's water supply.

At present, irrigation water is provided by the Town through the

treatment plant. Thirty eight percent of all the water that is

treated at the plant is used for irrigation needs. Based on the

water plant capacity of 520 gpm, and peak monthly residential use

of 40,930 (28,080,000 / 560 = 40,930) 560 residences is the

maximum number that could be served with the present system. The

current population is at 679 inside town limits and 400 customers

outside city limits totaling 1079. There are 560 users on the

potable water system. The water plant is at capacity and a

moratorium on new residential taps is presently in effect. The
