Maintaining the integrity of our .
supply and distribution system and protecting clean water for a broad range of beneficial
uses represents :,L significant investment on the part of the residents of the state of
Colorado. Making sure that all members of society are educated is critical to sustaining
water resources in our state.
Water education at the K-121evel in Colorado, which includes the Project WET
program, is a key component in realizing this goal. By focusing on Project WET, and their
newly designed Discover a Watershed and Watershed Management curriculwn, CWN will
pull together a broad array of curricula for teachers across the state, and provide assistance
in adapting these activities for local needs.
The proposed project will fund and support a Water Education Coordinator.
This position will provide support and participate as a leader in water education
efforts statewide and serve as representative of Colorado at the nationallevel. This
position will further the mission of the CWCB by providing volunteer management,
partnership projects, program administration, and distributing educator materials and
resources.
Colorado Watershed Network is the ideal agency for administering this position.
CWN through its River Watch Program runs the country's largest statewide
volunteer water quality monitoring program. The majority of volunteers in this
program are K-12 students and teachers from 73 school groups across the state.
CWN already works with an extensive statewide teacher network and CWN's
existing resources, partnerships, and knowledge would best leverage the efforts of
the Water Education Coordinator. CWN has proven its leadership by educating the .
youth of Colorado in the importance of our water resources. By partnering with
national Project WET, WILD, River Watch, and other participating agencies, CWN
will further the goals of the CWCB by providing comprehensive water education to
our future leaders.

2.
