-- -- -
III. Summary
The City of Northglenn recognizes the value of its water resources and the need to use
these resources wisely. The City began implementing water conservation initiatives in
the summer of 2001, and in 2002, adopted drought mitigation measures. Since 2001, the
City has made great strides toward conservation and drought mitigation. While the City
has developed adequate, stable and reliable water supplies, it still has insufficient water
supplies to meet drought demands. The City is aware that increased water conservation
will improve its water supply reliability and mitigate the impact of future droughts.
The City will use the requested grant funding to revise and complete its Water
Conservation Plan for submission to the OWCDP for approval. The processes and
procedures outlined in the "Water Conservation Plan Development Guidance Document"
will be used for the Plan development and revision. The Plan will contain goals for water
conservation so that the City can become more water efficient and reduce the need to
develop or acquire new water supplies. The Plan will also contain guidelines to monitor,
evaluate, revise and update the adopted plan once it has been approved by the OWCDP.
The City will continue to use and seek out new water wise management systems and
practices. The requested funding will facilitate the development and adoption of a Water
Conservation Plan that will ensure years of a safe, stable supply of affordable water to the
citizens of North glenn.
August 30, 2006 I
