Chief MS <br />Water Supply Planning and Finance Section. <br /> <br />Rod Kuharich <br />CWCB Director <br /> <br />Dan McAulille <br />Deputy Director <br /> <br />DATE: July 12, 2002 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Agenda Item 19b., July 23.24,2002 Board Meeting <br />Riverside Ditch and Allen Extension Company <br /> <br />Introduction <br />The Riverside Ditch and Allen Extension Company (RDAEC) is applying for a $50,000 loan to <br />rehabilitate the Riverside Ditch. The estimated total cost of the project is $67,000. Please see the <br />attached project summary and map. <br /> <br />BackQround <br />The RDAEC, located in Chaffee County, operates the Riverside Ditch/Allen Extension Ditch for <br />the benefit of its shareholders by providing delivery of water.for irrigation within a 420-acre service <br />area. The system consists of a headgate on the Arkansas River about 7 miles north of Buena <br />Vista and seven miles of ditch. Three trestles, built in 1940, cross several creeks and arroyos. <br />These trestles are in poor COndition and leak bCidly. The Company asked the NRCS to evaluate <br />these trestles and design an alternative. RDAEC plans to replace the trestles with buried pipeline <br />in fall 2002. <br /> <br />Feasibilitv Studies <br />The Company has completed the feasibility study with input from the NRCS. The report includes <br />an evaluation of alternatives available for rehabilitation of the canal. <br /> <br />The Riverside Ditch and Allen Extension Company <br />The RDAEC is a Colorado non-profit Ditch Company registered in the State of Colorado. There <br />are 18 shareholders and 1450 shares of stock. The RDAEC has the power to set annual <br />assessments to be paid by the shareholders and the power to refuse to deliver water to <br />shareholders that fail to pay their assessments. <br /> <br />Water Ri<lh.ts <br />The RDAEC owns water rights totaling 29 cfs from the Arkansas River with priority numbers 98, <br />135, and 171. Average total diversions are about 4000 acre-feet per year. <br /> <br />
