OUring
this period, the public is invited to identify the issues and concerns they
have and to suggest possible alternatives. Those, along with alternatives
developed by Reclamation and the various agencies cooperating in the study,
will be considered. A final list of alternatives will be produced and
evaluated in the EIS.

preparation of the Glen Canyon Dam EIS was directed by Secretary of the
Interior Manuel Lujan last summer. The IES follows the Glen Canyon
Environmental Studies (GeES) which began in 1982 and which forms the basis of
the EIS effort. Technical information from those internal studies will be
incorporated into the draft EIS.

The Secretary of the Interior directed that, in addition to Reclamation,
cooperating agencies in preparing the EIS will include U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service, National Park Service, and Western Area Power Administration of the
Department of Energy.
