.....

~ MISCELLANEOUS OPERATING NOTES FOR THE CURRENT PROGRAM
-.J

If you are working in the program and 'hit a wrong key or enter something
that- causes the program to shut down [you cannot change the'screen, make
the cursor work, or activate by hitting RETURN], don't worry. A warn
boot [CTRL + ALT + DEL] or hitting the reset buttOn will get you out of '
the program without losing any data (up to the point it was last saved)
or damaging the program. You will have to restart the program [GO] and
reload a data' file.

The current program data includes areas which did not (in 1987) receive
Colorado River water but will receive it in the future. ,In order to,
obtain accurate calculations these areas must be eliminated 'from the
summary tables when that option is presented. Those areas included'but
not receiving Colorado'River water in 1987 are: Maricopa County/Phoenix
arid Pima County/Tucson.' On the damaie screens for households
(Screen 29, p. 24), utilities (Screen 36, p. 30), and industry (Screen
46,p. 38), if [10] all nine areas) is selected, Phoenix and Tucson'
should be eliminated when the opportunity is given.

The program does not show negative damages, but to be safe, those areas
with a current or 10 year average TDS value below the baseline selected
should also be eliminated at [10]. For the existing data files this
means that aL500-GURR, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Clark County/
Las Vegas- should be eliminated. At the 500 mg/L TDS baseline, the
current TDS values in these areas are below 500 and thus could show
'incorrect values or: otherwise skew 'the program calculations.

QUICK START AND STOP StM4ARY

Insert program disk into Drive A. After entering the DOS system, at the
, C: \ prompt, tYJ>e A:. At the A: \ prompt, type GO followed by pressing
ENTER or RE'tURN-. Follow menu' instructions from screen 1. To exit,
program; type [10]- quit from: the main menu. At the A: \ prompt, tyPe C:
to return to the 'resident DOS system on a hard disk system.

HELPFUL HINTS

L Do not forget to load the data before entering any of the five main
sections of the program. Data is loaded from a MAIN MENU cODDlland.

2. Do not attempt to take any shortcuts through the program. It may
take a couple of hours to go through all the screens carefully, so be
prepared to devote some time to learning. Remember, the total damages
must be calculated in the separate Agricultural, Household, Utility, and
Industrial sections before the final summary of total damages can be
completed.

3

.", -..--.'~ ,. -...,_......-,... =--.-_._".,,:.-~.
