It supports dinners and other <br />special events for Members of Congress and staff. <br /> <br />staff Contact: Ken Murphy. <br /> <br />Sustainable Development Initiative: The Institute recently <br />cODllllenced a cross-cutting project titled "Sustainable <br />Development Begins at Home." The project has evaluated other <br />EESI programs to insure that they are oriented to the maximum <br />extent possible toward environmentally sustainable development. <br />The next step will be to conduct a series of workshops to <br />explore technologies, strategies and policy options that will' <br />simul taneously promote environmental protection and assure <br />domestic economic health. <br /> <br />The project will attempt to translate into. concrete <br />actions the ideas contained in the U.N. World Commission on <br />Environment and Development report, Our Common Future, and <br />seminal works by the Worldwatch Institute, World Resources <br />Institute, Resources for the Future' and others. A task force <br />composed of representatives of a broad range of organizations <br />and disciplines has been set up to advise the project. <br /> <br />Staff Contact: Ken Murphy. <br /> <br />Technoloaies for Environmentallv sustainable Develooment: <br />EESI, in cooperation with Senators John Heinz and Albert Gore, <br />Jr., and the Congressional Conference, hosted a major <br />international fair and policy forum in the spring of 1990, the <br />20th anniversary of Earth Day. The fair allowed policymakers, <br />the media and the public to learn first-hand about innovative <br />technologies, strategies and products and how they can achieve <br />environmentally sustainable development.
