.

.

The watershed user questionnaire will be sent to residents residing within Bear
Creek Basin. Municipal governments will be provided a percentage of question-
naires, which will be based on present populations. They will send these
questionnaires to a random selection of home owners in their communities. Ap-
proximately 1,000 surveys will be distributed to home owners in Bear Creek
Basin.

This watershed user questionnaire will be designed to provide information about
Bear Creek Park, Bear Creek and Turkey Creek:

1. historical uses at Bear Creek Park. along Bear and Turkey Creeks;

2. Bear Creek Park current uses, existing conditions and potential improve-
ments;

3. basin watershed current uses, existing conditions and potential improve-
ments;

4. biological resources at Bear Creek Park and along Bear and Turkey Creeks.

Generally, a 10 percent retu rn of completed questionnaires would be considered
as a minimum requirement and a 20 percent return of surveys would be considered
above average. This would provide an estimated data base between 200 to 400
surveys for Bear Creek Park and its associated watershed. This data base would
be adequate to characterize public use and opinions in regards to both Park and
watershed. Personal interviews wow Id be used to augment su rvey information.

Personal interview questions would generally follow both reservoir and watershed
survey questions. These interviews would be made after preliminary assessment
of initial survey questionnaires. ,h'ls would allow for restructuring of questions,
if necessary, in order to maximize information gained from interviewing. Ap-
proximately 100 interviews would be administered at Bear Creek Park. Addi-
tionally, there would be about 50 interviews administered to users visiting public
parks within the watershed. These interviews will further characterize user
perceptions and opinions. Personal interviews will be done primarily in the
summer months during peak visitation periods. Bear Creek Park rangers affil-
iated with the City of lakewood Parks Department will assist with interviews in
the Park. DRCOG staff and task force members will administer interviews in the
waters hed.

DATA ANALYSIS

Survey and interview questionnaires will be statistically tabulated and analyzed.
Nominal levels of measurement are used to statistically analyze survey information.
There are no assumptions made about values being assigned to data when meas-
urement levels are nominal. Each value is a distinct category and no assumptions
are made about ordering between categories. One-way frequency distributions
and two-way cross-tabulations will be run for survey questions.

6
