.'

Task 3 Bathymetric Survey

--As requested, a bathymetric survey of the Bear Creek Reservoir would be

conducted during the summer of 1987. Given the reservoir's areal extent

(less than 120 acres) and the relatively shallow depths (less than 10

feet in many areas), we recommend a network of soundings rather than

using a fathometer which is not accurate for depths less than 10 feet.

A grid would be established and determine the depth at each grid point,

This grid may be 100 feet or more in open water and perhaps as dense as

25 feet in critical areas such as stream-tributary inlets.

The approach would be to establish a net of approximately six horizontal

control points which would be used to establish the existing edge of

water and subsequently to control the location of grid soundings. Also,

the water-surface elevation would be determined precisely based upon a

USGS or COE datum. A one-foot contour map of the lake bottom would be

provided. The map also would delineate the reservoir water's edge and

control points and lines to a scale commer;tsurate with pre-lake

mappling available from the COE. If a pre-lake contour map is

available, an additional map showing changes in sediment deposition

relative to the pre-lake map would be provided.

This survey would be subcontracted out; however, the prime contractor

would supervise the field work and document the results of the survey,

Task 4 Field Supervision/Data Reporting

--A minimal but critical effort in the study would entail overview

supervision of the field investigations (including quality-assurance

functions) and reporting of the resultant data. It has been assumed for

purposes of this proposal that quarterly data reports would be prepared

41
