"

would be made monthly during the September-through-April period and

bimonthly during the May-through-August period. At each in-reservoir

sampling location, between 3 and 6 water-quality samples would be

collected to give a vertical profile of conditions. Also, secchi-disk

depths would be measured at each survey location. Field measurements of

water temperature, dis.solved-oxygen concentration, pH, and specific

conductance would be made in association with each collected sample.

For purposes of this proposal, it has been assumed that 3 samples each

would be collected at the tributary-arm reservoir profiles and that 6

samples would be needed at the near-dam deeper reservoir profile for a

total of 12 samples per survey. The general guideline of collecting

samples between one-half meter below the reservoir's water surface and

one-half meter off the bottom would be adhered to; aslo, sample

intervals of 1-1/2 meters for vertical profiles would be maintained,

In general, it is anticipated that reservoir field surveys would be made

between 0800 and 1600 hours of each sampling day. In the case that

inclement-weather and/or ice-cover conditions would result in surveys

not being conducted in accordance with the above-described frequency,

more intensive survey coverage may be considered during the summer

(May-through-August) period. The chemical and biological variables to be

measured for the in-reservoir sampling are summarized in Table 2.

Only upper mixing-zone samples would be collected for chlorophyll

a and algal biomass analyses; cell-density counts would be included in

the analyses of algal biomass for a total of 48 samples for these

biologically- related variables,

40
