.',

In-Lake Water Quality Monitoring Program

A continuous water quality monitoring program is essential to the success

of the Clean Lakes program, The present monitoring program will be ex-

panded to include a complement of water quality variables which will define

the chemical interaction of the water column, A quality assurance program

will be followed to maintain sample integrity. Specifics of the program are

detailed in Appendix A.

The monitoring program should focus on problem areas in the reservoir

and on tributaries to the reservoir. Previous reservoir sampling has shown

violations of the fecal coliform standard and the source of the bacteria should

be isolated. This could be a problem from an outside source and monitoring

the reservoir inflows should define the source of the problem, Also, the

inlake monitoring program should concentrate on the Turkey Creek arm of

the reservoir as data has shown the highest concentrations of phosphorus

and chlorophyll a occurring in this portion of the lake.

Limnologic Study

A detailed data base for the identification of significant pollutant inputs

and their impact on water quality will be developed. The existing hydrology

of the reservoir will be determined. Further delineation of roles and re-

sponsibilities will be established upon the development of a detailed scope

of work,

The following techniques for lake assessment will be applied:

1. an analysis and discussion of existing limnologic data;

6
