"
l.f

.

.

A second su rvey will be mailed to 1,000 citizens who reside upstream within

the Bear Creek Basin. This survey, along with personal interviews, will seek

information about Bear Creek Park, Bear Creek, and North Turkey Creek, which

contributes to the reservoi r.

While the surveys are being conducted this summer, reservoir and stream

samples will be taken monthly or bi-monthly to identify the inflow properties from

Bear and Turkey creeks. including storm runoff and reservoir water quality,

Other studies being conducted in relation to the Clean Lakes Program include:

an evaluation of the summer-growth macrophyte (larger attached or floating

plants); measurements of water circulation patterns in the reservoir under dif-

ferent runoff periods th roughout the yea 1'; meas u rements of the reservoi I' bottom

to determine how new sediment changes its phYSical properties; a preliminary

study of fish populations to determine if water quality has any affect on fish;

and an assess'ment of groundwater quality near the reservoir. The final report

will incorporate these components, plus recommended management alternatives,

to determine the best management practices for the reservoir and watershed, as

well as a land-use analysis for growth impact in the area.

Opportunities will be arranged during the survey period for special interest

groups, interested agencies and concerned citizens to make presentations at

regularly scheduled meetings of the Bear Creek Basin Study Task Force. In-

formation presented at these meetings will be incorporated into the final report.

A public hearing will be scheduled once the collected data has been tabulated

and the final report is in progress. Preliminary survey results are expected this

fall.

#

#

#

2
