They were edited at the San .Francisco .

Work Group meeting and they are now being reviewed in their semi-final

form by all member states. The innovative programs that are being

suggested by these federal officials as well as identified research

needs are now being communicated to the states.

Element 5 calls for monitoring of the Salinity Control programs.

Thus far, numerous meetings have been held with individual federal

officials and a meeting of the Federal Advisory Group has been held.

The Executive Director of .the Forum has had personal contact with al~ of

the lead personalities in the major federal agencies associated with

salinity control in the basin. The Work Plan and timetable of the

"

agencies with respect to their own individual programs have been identified.

The federal budget that is being proposed for FY-SZ is now being reviewed

by the Executive Director to determine if adequate funds are available

to proceed expediently with the important elements of the individual

agencies programs.

Element 6 addresses the need .to foster and provide l1aison. Specifically

mentioned is the need to foster better communication between the state

entities and members of Congress and their key aides. With the changes

that are now occuring in Washington in the Administration and in the

Congress (particularly in the Senate) there are many new participants

that will not be conversant with the salinity programs within the Colorado

River drainage. Initial contacts have been made by phone but many of

the key personalities have not yet been selected. Representatives from

most of the Colorado River Basin states and the Executive Director of .

the Forum recently spent a week in Washington, D.C. discussing the need

for salinity control measures in the Colorado River Basin with' new

administration officials and with key members of Congress and their staffs.

,,,-
