17. The 33 levee projects have a combined estimated Federal cost
of J11,000,OOO, and a cost to 100a1 interests of something over
)2,000,000. The requirements of local oooperation were refused by
local interests on 27 of these projects, principally on the Arkansas
River in Oklahoma and Arkansas, Kansas e.nd the Gra.nd Neosho and
Verdigris Rivers in Kansas. Two were oomp1eted as W. P. A. projects
(';rinfie1d in Kansas and Augusta in Kansas). Four have been completed
at Federal cost with local contributions in accordance with the re~
quirement5 of the Act. Thess are as follows:

*North Uttle Rook, flood Tt8.11 and levee to pro'tect oity; esti-
mated Federal cost ..'1,,;.01,000, oost of lands, etc., ,~18,500.

*North Uttle Rock to Gillett, Ark., on the north bank of
Arkansas River, levees to proteot &&rioultural lands; est-
heated Federal oost 02,424,000; lands and de.mages ':349,000.

Faulkner County on Arkansas River, levee to protect agrioultural
lands J estimated Federa.l cost $100,000: lands ';16,000.

tola, on Grand River in Kanaas, largely to protect city, estimated
