Project Title: Flaming Gorge Studies: Effects of flow regulation and <br />ice on overwinter nursery habitat of age-O Colorado Squawfish in the <br />Green River below Flaming Gorge Dam. <br /> <br />II. Project Sununary: <br /> <br />This project measures backwaters with age-O Colorado squawfish in fall <br />(September) and winter (January and February) to determine the effect <br />of flow regulation and ice formation on habitat availability. Specific <br />objectives are to: 1) determine availability of free water, and <br />therefore age-O habitat, in ice-covered and frazil-filled backwaters <br />2) determine longevity of backwaters exposed to winter flow regulation <br />and ice formation; 3) determine potential for nursery habitat of <br />Colorado squawfish from Echo Park to Rainbow Park; and 4) recommend <br />winter flows and spring habitat maintenance flows to protect nursery <br />habitat of age-O Colorado squawfish. <br /> <br />IV.
