.

.

water tables are endangering the production of this area.

We submit that recharge of the Ogallala or surface water deliveries is

possible with South Platte River water, but impossible without large scale

storage (Narrows).

How can Narrows Aid in Orderly Population Growth?

Our current

population of 2.7 million is growing at an annual rate of 2.75 percent --

nearly three times the national rate.

According to a recent study by the

Department of Housing and Urban Development, "Front range population is

expected to increase by one million residents by the year 2000. This growth

will require an additional 200,000 housing units between 1985 and 2000."

Clearly, these new residents will need water. Rather than the present

practice of cities acquiring senior agricultural water rights for human

consumption, new and dynamic practices of sharing our water resources will

come forth, if there is storage!

The Narrows Project, over time, will develop a tremendous volume of

water which can be shared by urban and rural water users, through orderly and

accepted exchange procedures.

Today, we ask for the help of the Federal Government to fund this

incredibly important project.

Local financial support is a part of the Narrows Project financing.

State front-end money has been offered to the Reagan administration.
