The Regional <br />Director of the Lower Colorado <br />Region has been delegated respon- <br />sibility for pollution control at the <br />~fohave Powerplanl. <br /> <br />Periodic dredging in Topock <br />Marsh, part of Hav8sll National <br />Wildlife Refuge, provides im- <br />proved habitat for waterfowl such <br />as the endangered Yuma clapper <br />rail species. Topock Marsh is one <br />of many created along the river <br />by Reclamation projects. <br /> <br />Reclamation is presently involved <br />in a Federal.State study to evalu- <br />ate, among other things, the effects <br />of reservoir operation on the Lake <br />Mead bass fiaherr. The study is <br />scheduled for completion in 1977 <br />and should provide valuable in- <br />formation to help protect and <br />enhance Lake Mead's environment. <br /> <br />The Bureau of Reclamation is also <br />currently involved in the prepara- <br />tion of the "Environmental Impact <br />Assessment of the Operation of <br />Lake Powell under the Long- <br />Range Operating Criteria." The <br />assessment will cover the historical <br />background and project plan, a <br />description of the present operat- <br />ing program, a description of the <br />environment, and environmental <br />impacts on present and alternative <br />operations. <br /> <br />
