B 15 '\98'\ \U <br />COc~?~~\~?O~/\~~~RD <br />CQ;'~~;'~':'" .' . <br /> <br />MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT <br />AQUATRAIN PROJECT <br />January 1984 <br /> <br />,~ <br /> <br />;,-~ 1.0 INTRODUCTION <br /> <br />,~~ <br />.....-t <br /> <br />( .) <br /> <br />This report summarizes Saline Water Transport and Use Office plannin9 <br />and related activities on the AQUATRAIN Project for the previous <br />month and anticipated activities for the next 2 months. The purpose <br />of the report is to inform individuals involved with AQUATRAIN <br />of current and upcoming activities so that a coordinated effort <br />can be maintained and project flag dates met. <br /> <br />***NOTE: On January 17, Interior Secretary William Clark was <br />briefed on AQUATRAIN by Assistant Secretary for Water <br />and Science Broadbent, Regional Director Barrett, Project <br />Manager Clinton, and David Williams, Jr., Morgan Greenwood, <br />Tom Clark and Ira McKeever of Western Water Reserves, <br />Inc. Mr. Williams presented a briefing paper titled, <br />"Business and Government Implications of the AQUATRAIN <br />Project" (copy enclosed). The Secretary feels AQUATRAIN <br />could aid many varied problems related to salinity <br />control, acid rain, energy, national defense, and balance <br />of trade. Secretary Clark suggested future briefings <br />appropriate sectors of the Administration to assure <br />coordination. <br /> <br />c...:; <br /> <br />Modification No. 1 to the Cooperative Agreement was <br />approved by the Department of the Interior and was <br />executed by Regional Director Barrett on January 30. <br />The modification approves Western Water Reserves, Inc. <br />(WWR) as the new private industry partner in AQUATRAIN. <br />The Upper Colorado Regional Office issued a news release <br />in this regard on February 2. <br /> <br />2.0 SUBTEAM: WATER RIGHTS/WATER SUPPLY/STATES ISSUES <br />2.1 JANUARY EVENTS <br /> <br />The Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Forum is working <br />with Senate subcommittee staff to schedule markup on S.752. <br /> <br />2.2 ANTICIPATED FEBRUARY EVENTS <br /> <br />The Interior Secretary's Special Assistant in Sacramento <br />will set up a briefing for the Governor of California. <br /> <br />2.3 ANTICIPATED MARCH EVENTS <br /> <br />McKeever will address the Cheyenne, Wyoming Rotary Club <br />on March 14. <br />
