o A different approach was used for thfl FOllntain Il:I.ver. Here a dalble mass
U1
o d1.agrllll was plotted 1d.th the tlGW or the A:ril:ansas Il:I.ver at Pneblo as an abs<:l.ssa and
01
the flOll' of the Foant.a1n Il:I.ver at Pueblo as the ordinate. This was based on the QS-

BUllption that there is not. much ettect on the tlOlr e1' 'the Aricansas River at PlIablo due

to the lP' density of stock poDis above that etat:l.on. It was further asllllll9d that if

I!Itock ponds have been developed at the same rate, the average slope of this double lII8SS

diagram would reamin more or lel!lS the same. In ather words, if the effect of thflse

ptlllds is not very sudden, then the average slope vill remain the s_, bat the effect
ot these stock pow which have been developed rather recently is remarkable.
It was shown by the appearance and break of the average slups. It is BtIl'P1'is~ to
note that a break did appear in the year 1947, trom 1947 the sloJll of the diagram is
tlatter than the slope from 1941 to 1946. It was then attempted to f1D:i the reason
tor this breaking trom the average slepe. It was doubted H this was dD8 to the heav,y
develOpleDt. of stock ponds during this pertod in the Fauntdn Rtver basin. However,
to check this, the total DDlllber of ponds developed dll.riDg 1947 atd 1950 were cOlllpUted
and their total capac:1ty added lIhich came out rather lCJW, onJy sbout 58 ole. Ft.
Thus, it vas conCluded that this 58 ole. Ft. could not effect the n.s at the FQ1msin
Il:I.ver at PueblO to arq great extent. Therefore, this would not C8l1Be a breakage in
the slope treDi. Theretore, the only reasonable answer to this can be attriblted to
the developlent e1' grollDd vater in the basin which may have caused the redllCtion in
flOlfI!l or the Fountain River at Pueblo. UnfortalUltely this study was llJD1ted to the
period 1941 to 1950 due to the available discharge records at the FOlntain Il:I.ver.
An attampt. vas mads to obtain further reoords of the Fountain RlvS', blt tailed.
