C'/n:- ~-:,
(.. ...:,)..)

-29-

STERLINC CllAilBrn OF COlvlMliliCE

Copy of oral statement made by Albert S. Howe" Scretary-i~ager, Sterling
Chamber of Commerce, at public hearing on the proposed Narrows Dam, said pUblie
hearing held by the Colorado Wl;!ter Conserva.tion Board at the Logan County Court
House, September 14, 1951.

I ..ish to make a b:::-ief statement to tl\e effect that the Sterling Chamber of
Commerce wishes to go on record as being definitely in favor of the early construc-
tion of a dam somewhere along the South Platte Hiver.

We do not presume to dictate the precise site of such a dam. We leave the
selection of the exact site to qualified men in the fields of irrigation, flood
control and reclamation. However, we do believe that the dam should be built at
the site which is most feasible from both an economic sta.l1dpoint and an engineeri11g
standpoint. lie further believe that the dam should be located at a site which will
bring lDaJtimum economic benefits to communites downstr9am from the dam.

In conclusion, we believe that such a dam would i.CJ.llleasurably aid the continued
economic growth and progress of Sterling and Logan County.

Respectfully submitted,

Albert ::'. Howe, Secy-j~gr.
STEj(LING CHAMBER OF COiilijil(CE
