The photographs were
taken in August of 1991. These transects will be flown on 5 year

intervals to monitor and evaluate changes in wetland acreage.

With the low altitude and high resolution photography small

changes (measured to within 0.1 acres) in wetlands are expected

to be measurable and tracked.

Additional Wetland Inventory

Wetlands identified within salinity contracted acres and any

off-site wetlands that are expected to be impacted will be

inventoried on all salinity contracts. The l~cation, size, type,
source of water' supporting the wetland (Le. irrigation induced
{:; or natural wetland), and the value of wetlands using the Colorado

SCS wetland Evaluation Procedure (CWEP) will be 'determined and

tracked. Wetland unit values (WUV's) are generated by

multiplying acres of ,wetland by the estimated value for the

wetland. This value is based on an evaluation of 9 wetland

functions expressed on a scale of 0.0 to 1.0 similar to the
evaluation process for estimating HUV's with HEP.

Tracking Habitat Impacts
A wetland and wildlife habitat tracking system (WET) has
been developed by the McElmo Salinity 'Unit and is. being used in
the Lower Gunnison Salinity Unit. WET tracts general salinity
contract information, wildlife habitat practices scheduled for

the c~ntract, wetland information on contracted acres, and HEP
