Muss=an, a native of' Wisconsin, as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Science and Education at the U.s, Department of Aqrioulture on August J1, 1989. Dr. MusS1llan brinqs to the position a broad knowledqs ot. the Department and extensive experience in teachinq, research, and manaqelllent. Dr. Mussman earned his B.S. deqree in aqricultural bacterioloqy from the University ot Wisconsin' in 1999. In the years tbat' followed, he manaqed his fa=i1y beet. cattle ranohinq operation in Kansas while workinq toward his advanced deqrees at Kansae State University. H~ received his M.S, and Ph.D. deqrees in llIicrobioloqy in 1957 and 1959, respeotively, and bis D.V.M. in 1965. For the next seven years, Dr. Musslllan was an assistant prOfessor at Kansas State University, and then an associate professor in veterinery science at the univereity of Nebraska. USDA in consumer and Marketinq Services. He moved to the Animal and plant Health Inspeotion service in 1972, and held positions ot. increasinq responsibility there until 1977 when he aocepted a position with the Food and Aqriculture orqanization of the' U.N. in Rome, Italy. Returninq to APHIS in~980, he served as the ~qencyla administrator until 19BJ.
