The recommended plan,

initial phase, includes concrete lining of all laterals and

the west end of the Highline Canal. Lining of other portions

of the Highline Canal will be deferr'ed until needed to meet
the numeric criteria. The combined stage I & II of Reclama-
tion's portion of the Grand Valley Unit are estimated to
remove 164,000 tons pel" year with a cost of $633,000 per mg/l

per year. Reclamation has completed a reevaluation of the

salt load contribution from the Grand Valley area. Although

recent studies reevaluating the salt load contributed from

the Grand Valley area studies show an estimated salt load of

200,000 tons/yr less than previously estimated (580,000 tons

vs 780,000), the change in loading does not affect the es-

timated potential salt reduction of 410,000 tons per year for

the combined full Reclamation and USDA program.

Paradox Valley Unit, Colorado - The brine inflow control
program as proposed has been tested and verified. The brine
disposal plan using deep well injection has been evaluated

and is considered the most cost-effective and environmentally

preferred disposal alternative.

Information obtained by the consultant for the deep

well drilling resulted in a decision not to attempt rehabili-

tation of the abandoned Conoco Well in Paradox Valley. This

change required a revision of the deep well drilling specifi-

-6.-
