Item/Title: Wetlands of the Crested Butte Region: Mapping, Functional
Evaluation, Hydrologic Regime.

Prepared by: David Cooper, Boulder, CO for the Town of Crested Butte and
EPA, Region VIII

Date: March 1993

Abstract: The report delineates wetlands in the vicinity of Crested Butte,
CO encompassing the East River, the Slate River and the Coal Creek
Drainages. As part of an advanced identification of wetlands for the
Environmental Protection Agency and the Town of Crested Butte, the report
provides functional values associated with wetlands. These values include
water quality improvement, water storage, and wildlife habitat. The data
contained in the report is to be used by EPA to designate wetlands suitable
or unsuitable for disposal of dredged and fill material, and possibly by the
Town of-Crested Butte or Gunnison County to develop wetland regulation
programs.

The author in this report has identified various wetland types and their
associat~d functional values. In doing so, the author recognizes the
significance of protecting some of the most valuable wetlands in the area.

2. Item/Title: Nesting behavior of the American dipper in Colorado Condor
52:49-62.

Prepared!!y: H.W. Hann

Date: 1950.

Abstract: This paper describes the nesting behavior of the American dipper
based on observations by the author. The East River, Copper Creek, and
Cement 'Creek served as observation locations for the study. Although the
obvious intent of the paper is to describe the behavior of the dipper, the
paper alludes to the functional aspect of these water bodies.
