ASSIGNMENT OF WORK (C ont I d 1 <br /> <br />Pollution Abatement <br /> <br />a. Statement: The objective of wdter pollution control is to <br />preserve and improve the quality of the water resources for such uses as <br />public water supplies, industrial water supplies, agricultural, power, <br />navigation, wildlife, fish and aquatic life, recreation and other legit- <br />imate uses. The investiGation of this problem will consist of the <br />following steps: <br /> <br />(1) Determine present pollution contributed to water resources. <br /> <br />(<0) D ff <br />- etermine pollution prevention measures in e ect. <br /> <br />(3) Determine existing water uses ini'luenced by pollution. <br /> <br />(4) Determine the location of necessary field investigations <br />on special water pollution problems. <br /> <br />(5) Field Investigations. <br />(6) Determine water quality objectives for recognized water <br /> <br />uses. <br /> <br />(7) Determine pollution abatement measures required to meet <br />water quality objectives consistent with other plans developed in the <br />comprehensive investigation. <br /> <br />(8) Carry through economic Cost-Benefit studies as related <br />to water pollution control. <br /> <br />(9) Recommended plan. <br /> <br />b. Assignment: Federal Security Agency (Public Health Service). <br /> <br />c. Assisting Agencies: Corps of Engiueers; Department of Interior, <br />(Bureau of Mines, Fish and Wildlife, Geologic Survey, Bureau of Rec- <br />lamation), Department of Agriculture, State Agencies (Water Pollution <br />Control, Conservation, Game and Fish, Corporation Commissl1on, Planning <br />and Resources, State Board of Health, Geologic Survey, Department of <br />Agl:iculture) . <br /> <br />d. Time of Completion: <br /> <br />e. Disposition: To be prepared as a section of the final report <br />to Congress. <br /> <br />IV-14 <br />
