Of the <br />274,000 acre-feet of delivery in ell.cess <br />of the Treaty's minimum requirement, <br />about 207,000 acre-feet was covered <br />under provisions of the Commission's <br />Minute No. 242, the 1973 agreement <br />with Mexico, and about 67,000 <br />acre-feel was chargeable to <br />operational control of the river and to <br />U.s. users not taking ordered water. <br />About 97 percent of the excess <br />deliveries chargeable (0 operational <br />control occurred during two maior <br />storms in the lower Color ado area, <br />and consisted primarily of <br />uncontrollable floodwaters. At <br />the end of 1976, the Bureau of <br />Reclamation forecast an April through <br />Julv inflov,,' 10 Lake Powell of <br />5,000,000 acre-fl'€t. or onlv 60 percent <br />of the 1906-1975 average used by the <br />Bureau_ However, with in excess of <br />47 million acre-feet of active surface <br />storage in the major Colorado River <br />Basin rest>rvoirs, there will be no <br />reduction in deliveries of Colorado <br />River supplies to California. SDG&E <br />purchased irrigated lands within PVID <br />which have permanent Colorado <br />River water rights and will reduce <br />water use on the land to obtain its <br />cooling water. <br />The Chief Engim:.er concluded. after <br />considering projected future water <br />development in the Basin, a probable <br />10ng-tE'rm average annual undepleted <br />water supply of 14 million acre-feet at <br />lee Ferry, legal constraints on water <br />use, and operation of the Basin'.., <br />re..ervoir ..,ystem in compliance with <br />the Coordinated Operating Criteria, <br />that the Metropolitan Water District <br />and Palo Verde Irrigation Di,>trict will <br />receive sufficient Colorado River <br />water to deliver water at all times to <br />the Sundesert Project in the amounts <br />stated in the respective watE'r supply <br />agreements. <br /> <br />'" <br /> <br />
