<br />"Competition for Water" A Series <br /> <br />~ <br />o <br />N <br />~ <br /> <br />A must for anyone interested in California water history and politics, Western Water Education <br />Foundation is pleased to offer four exciting, fast-paced radio documentaries in handy cassettes on the his- <br />tory and development of water in California, Partially funded by a grant from the California Council for <br />the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities, these four programs are currently being <br />played on 20 public radio stations, <br />Program 1 -Overview - The Natural Waterscape contains interviews with geographers and historians, <br />Music, sound effects, and early diaries trace the Spanish and Mexican influence on California water law, <br />Program 2- Great Water Fights for Federal, State, and Private Control The rise of riparian and appro- <br />priative rights, water battles between cattlemen and farmers, the development of irrigation, and the cur- <br />rent controversy between farmers and urbanites over water conservation is discussed. <br />Program 3 - Water for the Cities The story of Los Angeles' and San Francisco's search for water is told <br />in diaries, including those of Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir, with interviews of historians and writers, <br />Current potential wastewater reclamation and conservation are analyzed. <br />Program 4 - The Water Projects The rise of the Central Valley Project in the 1930's and the State <br />Water Project in the 1960's and the sectional politics surrounding these projects is analyzed.
