The damsite is in Sections T
and 18, T4N, R58W and Sections 13, 23, 24, 25, and 26, T4N,
R59W in Morgan County about T miles northwest of Fort Morgan.

Existing public thoroughfares will provide the needed access
to the construction areas. Both the Union Pacific and the Chicago,
Burlington and Quincy Railroads serve the area.

Purpose and Operation

Narrows Dam and Reservoir will be a multiple-purpose facility
serving the functions of irrigation, flood control, recreation,
and fish and wildlife propagation. The reservoir will provide flood
control storage for the South Platte River and conservation storage
to supplement irrigation requirements for some l66,3TO acres of
presently irrigated lands having recurring water deficiencies.

Water will be stored for conservation purposes any time
water is available for storage under the water right to be
ac~uired. Releases for irrigation will be made when required
and may occur any time from April through October. The conserva-
tion capacity will also be used for holdover purposes, conse~uently
several years may elapse between periods when the reservoir is draw
down to the dead storage level. Depending on extent of runoff, it
may be also several years between periods when the conservation
capacity is completely filled.

Narrows Dam

Narrows Dam, which will cross the wide, flat South Platte
River Valley, will be 8 rolled earth-fill structure with a height
above streambed of 146~ feet. The crest length of the dam at
elevation 4453 feet will be 22,120 feet. The width of the crest
is 30 feet. Exhibit 5 shows the feasibility drawing for the dam
as prepared by the Office of Chief Engineer. Reservoir capacity
allocations shown on this exhibit have been rounded to the nearest
one thousand acre-feet.

15
