''', Ij .0'
,~',.) 1 ~-

~ransportation Facilities

No problems are anticipated in getting access to jobsites for
construction of the Narrows Dam and Reservoir since virtually all
construction areas are readily accessible from existing public
thoroughfares.

Rail terminals and haul roads accessible to the Narrows Dam
site are shown OIl exhibit 2. Major shipping terminals in the area
on the Union Pacific and the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroads
are respectively at the north and south sides of the city of Fort
Morgan. Both terminals are within an average haul distance of eight
miles from the damsite. The Union Pacific Railroad has a beet dump
siding at the Narrows Station located on the north side of the river
innnediately upstream from the damsite, It may be advisable to con-
struct additional siding track at this station to facilitate unloading
material and equipment for Narrows Dam. The Burlington Railroad has
a terminal at Wiggins which is within an average haul distance of
13 miles from the damsite and a beet dump siding at Griffin Station
within an average haul distance of six miles. .

Housing and Community Facilities

The construction headquarters office probably will be located
at Fort Morgan, Colorado. The
fee title requirement would comprise 23,040 acres of lands for
irrigation and flood control purposes, 856 acres for relocations,
and an additional 10,220 acres which would be needed to meet
present and future requirements for recreation and fish and wildlife
purposes. The latter lands, consisting of 3,000 acres for recrea-
tion purposes and 7,220 acres for fish and wildlife purposes were
requested and justified by the National Park Service and the
Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife. Included in the recreation
and fish and wildlife requirements respectively are 190 and 3,700
acres to be converted to fee title from lands which would otherwise

6

Revised July 1966
