Copies of this report
are on file in the libraries of Region 7 and the Chief Engineer.
Inasmuch as considerable time has lapsed since the material investi-
gations were accomplished in 1950, additional investigations may be
necessary to establish the final location of the materials needed
for construction. The types of construction materials on which
investigation studies have been conducted are as follows:

Embankment Materials

Laboratory tests on embankment materials were made in the
Fort Morgan office and in the laboratories of the Chief Engineer,
Denver, Colorado. Materials in the proposed borrow areas are
suitable, and sufficient quantities are available in the vicinity
of the dam for impervious and pervious embankment and the downstream
blanket of topsoil,

Pervious Blanket Material

Coarse pervious material is not available in the immediate
vicinity of the dam. Reconnaissance testing for this material
revealed two promising sources 11 and 13 miles from the damsite.
Sufficient material is estimated to be available from these two
sources for the gravel blanket under the riprap and, with some
selection in the areas, no processing would be required.

Concrete Aggregate

Fine concrete aggregate material is to be found in the
flood plain of the South Platte River both upstream and down-
stream from the damsite, The maximum haul distance for this
material is approximately three miles.

Coarse concrete aggregate material is not available in the
vicinity of the dam. Satisfactory sources have been located at
Greeley and Clear Creek between Golden and Denver, Colorado.
Another source to be considered is at Big Springs, Nebraska.

4
