This additional particulate ma:tter will be a
minor, short term impact and will occur during surmner and
fall when natural wind dispersion is greatesf.
i
During the relocation of approxinately ope mile of u.s.
Highway 160 sane air quality impacts will !:Ie caused by road
construction. An increase in particulate l~vels will result
due to exposure of soils and earth moving ~ctivities. wind
blown dust and travel of construction I equipl\ent (e.g.
scrapers, trucks, dozers, etc.) over exposed dirt surfaces
are likely to be the largest sources of inc~eased particulate
emissions. Construction equipnent will also emit gaseous air
pollutants of carbon monoxide, nitrog'en oxides, and
hydrocarbons. Particulate and gaseous emi~sions fran these
sources will be of limited duration, d\.iring one summer
construction season (~!ay to October). Amj:Jient particulate
concentrations will be significantly increa$ed above exiE'ting
background levels for short periods of timj', associated with
higher winds during the daylight hours. Impa.cts IVill be
highest in close proximity to constructfon activities as
fugitive dust emissions tend to settle out of the air at
relatively short distances fran tHe construction area.

(2)

Carbon Monoxide

carbon monoxide (CO)
using the same Box
maximum TSP impacts.

i
I
i
impacts fran all sou~ces are estinated
M:Jdeling approach applied to estimate
The highest TSP impacts were estimated
.
