000700 .

.

Blue Mesa Reservoir has dropped only about 1 foot from its peak level

at elevation 7,474.1 feet reached on July 19, 1967, when 574,900 AF of

water was in storage. Connnercial power production, which begins this

month, should result in a withdrawal of storage this fall and winter to

about 36l,000 AF next April at elevation 7,438,08 feet. Since snowmelt

runoff of the Gunnison River is usually more than can be acconnnodated by
this amount of space in~the reservoir, the chances are excellent that the

reservoir will fill for the first time next year.

Filling of Morrow Point Reservoir should begin in early 1969 with only

a few months being required to completely fill the reservoir.

Navajo Reservoir now contains about 640,000 AF at elevation 6,485 feet

and we intend to hold the reservoir at about this level until the still-

ing basin repairs are completed. This provides an excellent recreational

potential without inhibiting the contractor's operations in the stilling

basin. We plan to operate the reservoir at or slightly above elevation

5,990 feet next year with a content of about 673,000 AF.

Lake Mead at present has a content of 14,240,000 AF and is expected to

stay at about this level for the next year.

GENERAL INVESTIGATIONS

Feasibility Investigations

The Battlement Mesa Project report dra.:ft is in the latter stages of com-

pletion and review..

The project would develop the flows of Buzzard Creek to provide irrigation

water for 9,470 acres of land, including 3,l30 acres of presently irrigated

8
