.

.

and a third contract for constructing access roads for the southern half of

the Curecanti-Hayden 230-kv. transmission line.

Specifications have been issued, with bid opening set for September 26,

1967, for Stage 01 of the Midway substation.

/
POWER SYSTEM STUDIES

As expansion of the western power systems takes place and new large power-

plants are installed to meet the continuous increases in power consumption,

extensive computer studies are required to assure proper planning of these

facilities. The Bureau is playing a major role in these studies. For the

near future, 1970-72, all western systems are participating in a study

being made on the Arizona Public Service Company computer in Phoenix.

For the longer range, the Bureau, in cooperation with Bonneville Power

Administration and Southwestern Power Administration, is performing a

study on its computer in Denver to try to forecast the needs of the western

half of the United States in 1975 and 1980.

,
1-
MARKETING OF CRSP POWER

As of August 31, 1967, the Bureau had 79 contracts for the sale of firm

power. These contracts provide for a total delivery of about 60l mega-

watts this summer, increasing to a total delivery of about 956 megawatts

in the summer of 1970. The winter delivery for the corresponding period

is expected to be less and would be about 399 megawatts and 713 megawatts,

respectively. These contracts generally are based on the customer's esti-

mated requirements in 1970-71.

Several contracts with preference customers remaining in the active nego-

tiation stage represent an increase of 40-50 megawatts for the summer of

4
