POTENTIAL LEVEL B STUDY AREAS

The Arkansas-White-Red Basins Inter-Agency Committee has
concluded that Level B studies in the AWR Region are not recommended
at this time. Representatives of several of the eight States of
the Arkansas-White-Red Region have responded further to Level B
studies as follows:

ARKANSAS

No Level B studies are proposed at this time because a
Type IV Basin Study is underway for the entire state and should
provide similar information.

COLORADO

Following a review of the problem issues (Chapter II) and of
the on~goil;lg studies (Chapter IV), it was concluded that the Depart-
ment of Agriculture, USDA, Cooperative River Basin Study scheduled
for initiation in 1977 will satisfy the requirements for a coordinated
comprehensive planning study needed in ASA 1102, Colorado. A Level B
study for Arkansas River Basin, ASA 1102 is therefore not recommended.

Public Law 94-587 - October 22, 1976, authorizes the Economic
Development Administration to .tudy the ground water problems of the
Ogallala Aquifer in the High Plains Region. This study will include
the problem issues in Problem Area 3, ASA 1102. In view of this
authorized study by EDA, a Level B study by the Water Resources
Council is considered unnecessary. It is recommended, however,
that the Arkansas-White-Red Inter-Agency Committee establish a
Work GIDUP for the purpose of working with EDA throughout the con-
duct of the study.

KANSAS

No Level B studies are recommended at this time in Kansas.

LOUIS IANA

The problem issues previously identified occur in a region
which has been studied by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the
"Red River Below Denison Dam" comprehensive study. Consequently,
the problem area described has no potential as a Level B Study Area.

MISSOURI

No proposal is intended, at this time, to request a Level B
Study designation for the Springfield area.

No proposal is being considered, at this time, to request a
Level B Study designation for the Joplin area.

98
