The project evaluation statements presented in this <br />volume set forth the investigations needed for those projects which <br />the individual planning agencies have identified as warranting early <br />oonsideration for development. They also prasent infor!lllltion as to <br />the effects of specific elements on water pollution oontrol, fish <br />and w1.1dlife, recreation, mosquito control and mineral resources. <br />Details of programs of agricultural research, credit and edUCation <br />which should be undertaken in ordar to facilitate and assure the most <br />successful operation of the projects will have to be worked out when <br />project plsns become more definite. <br /> <br />For the most part, elements of the plan were formulated <br />to provide, sol~tioDB to speoific problems in local areas with <br />incidental consideration of region-vide or national goals or problems. <br />A single project generally haa limited effect on the economy of the <br />region or the Nation or on broad problems such as totsl need for food <br />and fiber, and the me intenance of fish and wildlife resources. How- <br />ever, in long-range plsnning on a basin-wide baais, the cumulative <br />effects of numerous projects on such fsctors mey become significant. <br />The implications of the potential over-all development proposed in <br />the AWR Plan shou1.d be examined as decisions are made to proceed with <br />individual elements of the plan. <br /> <br />Agency repreeentatives of the Departments of the Army, <br />Agricu1.ture, and Interior assembled this section. The data contained <br />herein are largalY a re-editing and oondensation of meterial prepared <br />by field representatives of the Federal agenoies, and State repre- <br />sentatives during formulation of the AWR Plan. Representatives of <br />the Federal agencies and States which compose the AWRBIAC participated <br />in the development of the original evalUation statements.
