MAR 3 0 19M U:-_~--'-II To: All on the Enclosed List Summary of the March 2, 1994, and March 14, I994, Meetings on the Draft Biological Opinion on Operations of Glen Canyon Dam Enclosed for your use is a summary (Enclosure 1) of the major points and conclusions reached at the March 2, 1994, meeting of native fish experts which was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Although this summary has been reviewed and revised by some of the meeting participants, it was noted at the March 14, 1994, endangered fish meeting that two statements were in error. All the researchers did not agree the Little Colorado River is at carrying capacity, and the order of magnitude of flood to displace non-native fish has not been established. Subject: Enclosure 2 is a copy of an unpublished paper titled, "Management of Discharge, Temperature, and Sediment in Grand Canyon for Native Fishes." This paper was made available by its authors at both of the subject meetings and does not represent a Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) position. Enclosure 3 contains the key discussion points and flip chart notes recorded at the March 14, 1994, endangered fish meeting, an attendance list, and a copy of an overhead used during the meeting. Although we apologize for the lateness of this transmittal, we hope you will find this information useful in preparation of your comments on the Draft biological opinion. Pertinent comments will be compiled by Reclamation and transferred to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Submitting your comments by computer disk in WordPerfect (5.1) would greatly facilitate the process of compiling the comments. We have adjusted the comment deadline such that comments should be sent to the letterhead address, Attention: UC-770, no later that April IS, 1994. Comments should be sent separately from comments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement.
