I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

II - RAW WATER SUPPLY REQUIREMENTS

A. General

Municipal water 5upply systems are designed to .satisfy demands of

different magnitudes occurring at different times and for different

durati ons. These demands are generally th05e desc ri bed as annual raw

water requirement, 'naximum day requirement, and maximum hour requirement.

The annual raw water requirement is met by diverting and storing raw

water under existing State Water Laws and del ivering amounts needed from

these facil ities to the treatment facil ities. The maximum day

requirement is met by providing: adequate raw water supplies, adequate

treatment capacity, and adequate distribution facilities. The maxililum

hour requireme~t is met by providing adequate treated water storage and

adequate di5tribution facilities. Fire flow requirements are generally

met by providi ng storage to provide the vol ume of water needed and a

distribution system capable of conveying the necessary flow rate and for

the duration required. Some of the factors affecting demands include per

capita use, population, climate, cost of water, pressure fluctuations

within the distribution 5ystem, ratios of different types of uses, 50cial

attitudes, system losses, and unmetered municipal water uses for cleaning

pUblic facil ities such as streets and sewers. In this study, tile raw

water supply require~ents are based on projected population Figures

coupled with per capita water supply requir~nents. These figures

represent the most current available infonnation as of the date of this

re port.

-15-

r
