PROJECT SUMMARY

The Greetville-Carbondale Water Association, Inc.

was established to obtain funds for the construction

of a water distribution system to provide water to the

stockholders in a Service Area located between the City

of Trinidad and the Town of Starkville along Interstate

25. The Association stockholders are all served by

individual wells that have been going dry recently and

the population within the proposed Service Area is having

to haul water for domestic needs.

The soils classification in the Service Area is generally

a shallow soil over bedrock of limestone or shale. For

this reason the cost of excavation is similar to the costs

experienced in the mountainous areas. The City of Trin-

idad does not have sufficient capacity in the existing

water distribution and storage facilities to provide

adequate water during peak use periods or for adequate

fire protection. To offset the lack of capacity in the

existing City of Trinidad water system a storage reservoir

is required to meet the peak water demand periods and to

provide adequate fire protection,
