<br />Ji'\-'~ 1" S <br />uHJ...J_.",.'. <br /> <br />DRAFT <br /> <br />New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming and the United States Government <br /> <br />apportions waters of the Upper Colorado River Basin which had <br /> <br />been allotted to the Upper Basin states by the Colorado River <br /> <br />Compact. <br /> <br />Of the Upper Basin allocation, Arizona was allotted 50,000 <br /> <br />acre-feet annually. The remaining states were allocated the <br /> <br />following percentages of the remainder: Colorado - 51.75%, <br /> <br />New Mexico - 11.25%, Utah - 23.00% and Wyoming - 14.00%. <br /> <br />The state of Colorado agreed to deliver water to New Mexico <br /> <br />from the San Juan River and its tributaries in a sufficient <br /> <br />quantity to enable New Mexico to make full use of its allotted <br /> <br />share. <br /> <br />La Plata River Compact - 1922 <br /> <br />At the same time that the Colorado River Compact was <br /> <br />negotiated, Colorado and New Mexico negotiated and executed the <br /> <br />La Plata River Compact. <br /> <br />The Compact provides for the division of the water of the <br /> <br />La Plata River between the two states as follows: <br /> <br />1. Between December 1 and February 15 of the succeeding <br /> <br />year, each state shall have unrestricted use of the water <br /> <br />of the river flowing within its boundaries. <br /> <br />2. Between February 15 and December 1 of each year, the <br /> <br />flow is apportioned as follows: <br /> <br />a. Each state is to be unrestricted in the use of <br /> <br />water within its boundaries on each day when the <br /> <br />mean flow at the interstate station is 100 cfs or <br /> <br />more. <br /> <br />-6- <br /> <br />~---'- <br />
