are estimated at well over a million dollars. We
buy automobiles, trucks, farm machinery, gaso-
line, fuel oil, electricity, entertainment and end-
suppo.rt the hospital, the doctors and all other
types of . businesses in Fort Morgan and Brush.
We simplv cannot believe that a few insufficiently
informed people can be shortsighted enough to
think' that this is not an imDOrtant factor in the
:' economy of the community. 'We are stating these
t facts, not alone fer ourselves, but in the hope that
the people of the Fort Morgan community will
realize the importance of the Weldon Valley area
to the economv of the community.
By way of contrast, you may not know, i:Jut the
assessed valuation of the dam site in Weld Coun-
ty, that would be acceptable to the Bureau, accord-
ing to their statements, has onlv 27 families and
has a total assessed valuation' of $230,000.00.
We are stating this on I., to show the comparative
values. We do not intend to go into the question
of the feasibility of the two sites when everybody,
Including the engineers have all said that the Weld
County site Is tho boat from a water use stand-
point.
If you believe that Weldon Valley' is important
to the welfare of Morgan County and to Fort Mor-
glln IInd Brush, we ask the following things:
1. That as individuals, you sign the protest a-
gllinst the Lower South Platte Water Conserv-
ancy District.
2. That the City Council of the City of Fort Morgan
take .a position adverse to the conservancy dis-
trict, and a position favoring the Weld County
site. (Previous action was taken by tho Ccun-
cil witheut an opportunity for the farmers to be
heard and the reouest of the farmers for a hear-
ing was refused.)
3. That the Chamber of Commerce of Fort Morgan
take a similar position favoring the Weld Coun-
ty site.
4. Give us any suggestion you have that may help
in the preservation of this area. We would like
to hear from you no matter what your previOUS
position has been.
We ask you sincerely to support us in this
