The Colorado Water Con- <br />servation Board (CWCB) is assisting local governmental entities in <br />obtaining basic flood plain data, and in developing and adopting <br />effective flood plain ordinances and related land use regulation. <br />The Board is responsible for coordinating all flood-related studies <br />within Colorado, including the scheduling of Flood Plain Information <br />Studies by Federal agencies. Specific authority for preparing <br />detailed flood plain studies has been granted by Congress to the <br />Corps of Engineers (Flood Control Act of 1936) and the Soil Conserva- <br />tion Service (Watershed Protection and Flood Protection Act, PL 566 <br />of 1956). These Flood Plain Information Reports delineate flood <br />plains. The intent of the reports is that local entities could con- <br />trol the use of these flood plains and prevent development in the <br />path of fUture floods, if they know the extent of the plain. <br /> <br />LOCAL AGENCIES <br /> <br /> <br />Regional Councils of Government. Regional councils of govern- <br /> <br /> <br />ment have been organized within the State of Colorado for the pur- <br /> <br /> <br />pose of coordinating the planning activities of local agencies <br /> <br /> <br />within defined planning areas.
